Freeze property taxes on primary residences and expand Nevada's Homestead Exemption
Right now, residential property taxes are frozen at 3% maximum increases and commercial property is at 8%. With budgetary problems and shrinking revenue, the temptation may be to raise these levels and I will reject that in Carson City, and I will work to increase the Homestead Exemption to assist homeowners in bankruptcy keep their primary homes. I will support higher standards for mortgage lenders and their continuing education to maintain their Nevada licenses
Gaming Tax Reform
A more realistic Gaming tax rate to help pay for roads and schools, or allowing for both multi-state Lottery games to be sold in Nevada
Gaming has fought to keep its lowest tax rate in America, but has also blocked any attempt to allow for multi-state lottery purchases in Nevada. I agree not to create a whole new state lottery bureaucracy in Carson City, but would support allowing for the sale of both multi-state games throughout Nevada, taxed at the same rate as Gaming, to increase revenue for schools and roads.
More Accountable Schools
Not Teach the Test, but Teach the Best
More parental, community & corporate involvement/investment in local schools
Yes, we want more accountability, but we also want and need our kids to be mastering the basics and prepare them for a 21st century economy. A school is only as good as the parents willingness to demand the best and be involved, and having the community fully supporting these neighborhood institutions. More public/private partnerships to adopt local schools and make them as safe and nurturing as we can, will go a long way to equalize opportunities for all of our young people.
I also support increasing the number of Commercial and Technical schools in the school district to give opportunity and as many career choices as possible for the non-college bound students.
Summerlin Parkway Expansion & Major Street Improvements
Help to relieve West Valley congestion
Again, we built a highway and didn't anticipate the growth or traffic well enough.
Summerlin Parkway needs to be expanded between the 95 junction and 215, and I will work to secure those funds. Signal timing on Rainbow, Sahara and Charleston can be improved too for better traffic flow.
The Roundabouts on Town Center have been accident magnets that have created one of the highest accident ratios in the entire valley. They're nice to look at, but very dangerous to navigate for the average driver. We should err on the side of public safety and replace them with traffic signals, and I will work to secure those funds.
Clinic Health Scare Scandal
Criminally prosecute to the fullest extent of the law, and permanently revoke the licenses of all medical professionals who participated, or stood silent.
I will work with the Nevada Attorney General and Clark County District Attorney to ensure that prosecution of those who placed greed over public safety are prosecuted, if possible, and their Nevada licensure permanently revoked. I will also work with the Governor to disband the current Medical Examiners Board and seat new, non-conflicted people to ensure proper oversight and instill public confidence.
Business Roundtable for Assembly 2
Local business helps pay the bills, and deserves a seat at the table
As a local businessperson, I see a value in meeting throughout the year with our district's many businesses to ensure their issues are being properly represented in Carson City. We are a major jobs center in the valley, and we should engage our businesses more often toward a better quality of life for all of us.
